Mother-in-Law Suites

Independent living for the people you love. Privacy, dignity, and proximity.

What We Build

Mother-in-Law Suites

A mother-in-law suite, also called a granny flat or in-law apartment, is a fully independent living space built in your backyard. It includes a bedroom, full bathroom, kitchen or kitchenette, and living area, with its own entrance, independent plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. In Shreveport, this qualifies as an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) and is permitted by-right in most residential zones.

Why Custom

Not a Kit. Not a Metal Box.

A mother-in-law suite is a real home, not a converted shed. It needs real plumbing for the bathroom and kitchen, real electrical for appliances, and real HVAC for year-round comfort. It needs to be accessible, with wide doors and no-step entries if aging parents will use it. It needs to match your home's architecture so it feels like it belongs. Generic shed builders don't build this. We do.

Questions

Common Questions

Is a mother-in-law suite legal in Shreveport/Bossier?

Yes. Shreveport's Unified Development Code allows Accessory Dwelling Units by-right in most residential zones. Maximum size is 1,800 sq ft or 60% of your main home's floor area, whichever is less. One ADU per lot. We handle all zoning research and permitting.

Can I rent it out?

Yes, Shreveport allows ADUs to be rented. You'll need a Rental Dwelling Unit Certificate of Registration from the city. Short-term rentals (under 30 days) are separately regulated. We can advise on the requirements.

Does it need separate utilities?

It can share your existing utility connections or have separate meters. Sharing is less expensive; separate meters make rental billing cleaner. We'll discuss the best option during your design consultation.

Can it be designed for aging parents?

Absolutely. We incorporate accessible design from the start: no-step entries, wide doorways, walk-in showers with grab bars, lever handles, and good lighting. Designing for accessibility from day one is far less expensive than retrofitting later.
